Survival Tips
Whether you
are enjoying a spot of wild camping or you have booked a few nights at an
organised campsite, you will find our list of camping survival tips invaluable.
1. Repel ticks.
Mix 40 drops of tea tree oil with roughly 16oz of water and
spray it on exposed areas to repel those nasty little critters.
2. Light a fire.
Not only are tortilla chips a delicious snack, they also
make fantastic firelighters!
3. Freeze bottled water.
Freeze bottles of water before you leave home to keep food
fresh for much longer. When they have melted you have perfectly good drinking
water.
4. Be careful where you pitch your tent.
Check the wind direction before you set up your tent. If you
pitch it downwind from your campfire, everything, including yourself will smell
of smoke.
5. Light up your life.
It is a good idea to purchase a wind-up torch prior to your
trip. This ensures you have light even if your batteries run out. Always
remember, never underestimate how quickly it will get dark in the great
outdoors.
6. Blow your own whistle.
Make sure you always carry a whistle with you wherever you
go. If you are unfortunate enough to injure yourself whilst out exploring,
blowing a whistle can alert nearby campers or walkers of your whereabouts and
help can be arranged for you.
7. Freshen up.
Wet wipes or face wipes are ideal for a quick freshen up.
Always make sure you dispose of them properly, even if this means you have to
carry them with you.
8. Pack a rope.
Rope can be used for so many things whilst camping. Tying a
length between trees makes a perfect temporary washing line to dry damp clothes
on.
Camping is great fun and is the perfect way to bond with
family or friends. If you are looking for inspiration on where to stay, take a
