South Town Camping, Loxhore, Barnstaple, Devon

South Town Camping, Loxhore, Barnstaple, Devon

South Town Farm is a friendly, peaceful microsite on a working family farm, situated on the stunning National Trust Arlington Estate in North Devon. Our simple site has only 10 pitches spread across two fields allowing for lots of space to relax and play, a place to switch off, unwind and explore nature. Beautifully basic, our site is off-grid with compost toilets and a gas shower. The camp fields are car-free making it a safe place for children and a peaceful place to unwind. There is a carpark adjacent to the camp fields and large wheelbarrows are provided to transport your kit to your pitch. Mown paths lead to pitches and there is a large area to play games in each field. Our quirky wooden ablutions block comes with eco-toilets and a gas shower. Logs are available for an additional cost, ideal for a cosy campfire whilst gazing up at the night sky.

South Town's Shepherd's Hut is tucked away in a quiet corner of our campfield positioned perfectly to enjoy the spectacular views and beautiful sunsets. A peaceful retreat, very spacious for 2 adults and fully equipped with cooking equipment and a double bed fully made up.

Things to do:
Enjoy a stroll along our farm walk through fields and woodland.
Explore over 20 miles of footpaths through woodland and farmland across the Arlington Estate, accessible directly from the campsite. Arlington Court house is a 2 mile walk or 5 minute drive.
Exmoor National Park is a 10 minute drive away.
Main beaches of Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton are just 30 minutes drive.
The North Devon Coast Path is spectacular.
Exmoor Zoo.
Fishing can be found at Wistland Pound Reservoir and Bratton Water.

Our family’s passion for wildlife has guided us into farming, blending conservation with quality food production. Drawing on years of managing animals to graze vulnerable habitats, from Welsh Black sheep on chalk grasslands to Belted Galloway cattle on limestone commons, we now focus on enhancing biodiversity at Arlington. Partnering with the National Trust, Devon Wildlife Trust, and Natural England, we implement simple measures like growing hedges, increasing field margins, delaying hay meadow cuts, avoiding artificial fertilizers and minimizing soil compaction. Our efforts include sowing diverse local seeds, installing bat and bird boxes and creating habitats for wildlife in our micro campsite, where long grass supports wildflowers, insects and even a hunting Barn Owl.
