Campfire Safety Tips
Orange and
yellow flames, dancing in the darkness. Plumes of silver-grey smoke swirling
towards the night sky. Glowing embers smoldering, keeping the heart of the
fire burning. Listen to the crackling, gently breaking the silence of the
night. Sit back, relax and enjoy the hypnotic effect of nature’s television.
Campfires are wonderful things but need to be treated with the utmost of respect.
Campfires are wonderful things but need to be treated with the utmost of respect.
Follow these
few simple rules to stay safe on your camping holiday:
1) Create a
circle with rocks or stones to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading.
2) Choose a
site away from overhanging branches, this stops accidental fires caused by
flames getting too high and igniting nearby foliage.
3) Keep a
bucket of water nearby just in case your fire spreads.
4) Keep
excess firewood and kindling well away from the main campfire and always store
it upwind to prevent stray embers from igniting it.
5) Make sure
children and pets are kept at a safe distance and never leave the fire
unattended.
