Holme Valley Camping and Caravan Park, Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, Peak District National Park

Holme Valley Camping & Caravanning Park is beautifully nestled in a tranquil corner of the Holme Valley, right on the edge of the Peak District. Surrounded by 16 acres of woodland and meadows, it offers the perfect base for outdoor adventures. The park is just a mile from the vibrant town of Holmfirth, known for its independent shops, cafés, restaurants, and galleries, while the cities of Leeds, Sheffield, and Manchester are all within a 45-minute drive.

Camping

A wide variety of pitches are available, many with electric hook-ups. Guests can choose from scenic spots such as lakeside, riverside, amongst the trees, or in open meadows. On-site catering is available most weekends, adding extra convenience to a camping stay.

Glamping

For those who prefer a little more comfort, the site offers five camping cabins. These cosy retreats are ideal for guests reluctant to sleep under canvas or those simply looking for a touch of luxury. Each cabin is equipped with electric, heating, and lighting. Guests are asked to bring their own bedding, towels, and tea towels, and may wish to bring outdoor chairs for use outside. The cabins were part-funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development through the South Pennines LEADER project.

On-site Facilities

The new amenities block provides spacious showers, toilets, and family bathrooms available to hire. For food lovers, The Camping Stove takeaway cabin is open every weekend from April to September and select weekdays in school holidays, serving hearty breakfasts, pizzas, burgers, chips, cakes, and quality hot drinks.

Other facilities include a well-stocked licensed shop, a laundry room, and two children’s play areas. Kids are also encouraged to explore the woodland, build dens, and join in with organised seasonal activities such as crafts and adventure sessions. For added excitement, children aged 6 to 14 can take on the Crazi Bugz off-road experience, driving six-wheel electric vehicles on a purpose-built woodland track (booking via the park’s website). Adventure golf and a BBQ hut for all-weather gatherings are also available.

Activities & Wildlife

Dogs are warmly welcomed, with plenty of woodland walks nearby (though they must be kept on a lead within the park). The River Holme meanders around the site, attracting herons, dippers, and kingfishers. Fishing is available in both the lake and river, while the park also prides itself on being eco-friendly and supporting local wildlife habitats.

The location is a haven for walkers, cyclists, and horse riders, with nearby reservoirs providing scenic routes. The National Trust’s Marsden Moor Estate, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, is just 20 minutes away. Canal towpaths in Marsden, Slaithwaite, Milnsbridge, and Golcar also offer excellent cycling routes, while the National Cycle Route 68 passes between Holmfirth and Marsden. For a challenge, the climb up Holme Moss – 525 metres above sea level and once part of the 2014 Tour de France route – rewards adventurers with breathtaking views.

Local Area

After a day of exploring, guests can enjoy award-winning local pubs and breweries for a pint of real ale, or indulge in the many cafés and tea rooms in the surrounding villages. Holme Valley Camping & Caravanning Park combines outdoor adventure with comfort and convenience, making it an excellent choice for families, couples, and groups alike.
