Ali’s Little Woodland Wonder – An Off-Grid Eco Retreat in North Yorkshire
Ali’s Little Woodland Wonder offers a unique off-grid eco retreat set within 12 acres of private woodland on a family-run 270-acre working farm in Settle, North Yorkshire. With a charming vintage and retro-inspired design, the retreat has been created from a passion for nature, providing an authentic and memorable holiday experience.
Accommodation
The shepherd’s hut includes a cosy double bed, retro kitchenette, wood-burning stove and comfortable seating. Adjacent to the hut, guests will find a camp kitchen complete with hot and cold running water, gas stove, crockery and utensils. Facilities include a waterless compost toilet and a gas-heated shower hut.
As an off-grid escape, all lighting is solar-powered. Guests are advised to bring a power bank for phone charging as there are no plug sockets. Bedding is provided, but towels should be brought along. While there is no Wi-Fi, good mobile coverage is available.
Practical Information
In winter, water supplies may freeze, though drinking water remains available.
Access to the site is via a 0.2-mile unpaved farm track, suitable for all vehicles.
During summer, farm machinery may occasionally be heard at night as feed is prepared for cattle.
The nearby farm track remains in use for daily activities such as mail delivery, 4x4s and milk collection.
Outdoor Living
A fire pit and BBQ are provided, with campfires permitted. Guests are welcome to forage for wood if it is dry and on the ground. While there is no fridge, a cool box with ice blocks is supplied.
The 12-acre woodland is open for exploration and is particularly ideal for guests with dogs, which can roam off-leash within the woods. Due to local wildlife including deer, ducks and rabbits, care is advised. Outside of the woodland, dogs must be kept on a lead because of farm machinery and livestock.
Additional Option
For those seeking extra space, an additional pitch for a campervan or tent can be booked alongside the shepherd’s hut, making it a perfect choice for friends who wish to share the woodland experience together.
