Woodhouse Farm Holidays, Rhayader, Powys

Tucked away on a family-run smallholding, Woodhouse Farm sits halfway between the market towns of Llanidloes and Rhayader—known as the Outdoors Capital of Wales—placing guests in the geographical heart of Mid Wales, surrounded by countryside and the rugged Cambrian Mountains.

Set on an acre of level ground within the working smallholding, Mid Wales Camping welcomes visitors year-round (weather permitting). Five spacious grass pitches with electric hook-ups are available, while a separate paddock caters for those preferring an off-grid experience. Shared facilities include drinking water, a chemical-waste disposal point, a flushing toilet, an electric shower and convenient washing-up facilities.

Hidden well away from main roads, the campsite is blissfully free from traffic noise, creating a tranquil retreat where the only sounds are birdsong. Walkers will find plenty to enjoy, with public footpaths and bridleways criss-crossing the area, while the Glyndŵr’s Way National Trail passes almost by the gate.

Each pitch is equipped with a fire pit and picnic bench, with kindling available to purchase on site. During busier periods, fresh free-range eggs from the smallholding are also available to guests.

In addition to camping, the site also offers group accommodation in its bunkhouse, which sleeps up to 20 people. Available on a self-catering basis (with catering options by prior arrangement), the bunkhouse features an upstairs dormitory for 14 people and a downstairs family room for 6, including disabled access. Facilities include a kitchen, washing and drying room, common/dining room, toilets and showers. Outdoors, guests can enjoy a covered verandah, garden space, a BBQ and a charcoal pizza oven.

The area surrounding Woodhouse Farm is a haven for nature lovers. Guests can explore the Elan and Wye Valleys, the Trans Cambrian Trail, Glyndŵr’s Way, and nearby cycle routes such as Lon Las Cymru and the Radnorshire Ring (Route 25). Canoeing and fishing are popular on the River Wye, while The Gilfach Nature Reserve offers peaceful riverside picnic spots amidst beautiful scenery.
