Set within a beautiful woodland setting in Berkshire, California Chalet & Touring Park offers a peaceful retreat where every effort is made to ensure guests enjoy a relaxing and memorable stay. Originally part of Windsor Forest, the site was once a favourite hunting ground of the Tudors. Over time, it evolved into a popular leisure destination known throughout the South of England as “California in England”, and has since been designated by the Countryside Commission as a Country Park.
Chalets and Cabins
The park features 21 chalets and cabins, each accommodating between 5 and 8 guests. Nestled among the trees or along the lakeside, the chalets offer a tranquil setting — with the lakeside cabins enjoying their own private fishing areas. Each chalet includes a spacious open-plan lounge with an LCD TV/DVD player and comfortable sofas.
The fully equipped kitchens feature an electric hob and oven, refrigerator with box freezer, microwave, kettle, and toaster, providing all the essentials for a convenient self-catering stay.
Touring and Camping
For those travelling with their own accommodation, the park offers 38 individual pitches for touring caravans, motorhomes, and tents. Each pitch includes hardstanding, space for an awning, and access to a water supply and disposal point. Most pitches also offer electrical hook-ups.
A well-maintained toilet and shower block, personally supervised by the owners, includes hand basins, razor points, and hot showers. There are also outside dishwashing facilities, a laundry and clothes drying area, and accessible facilities for guests with disabilities.
Camping Pods
Guests seeking a cosy glamping experience can stay in one of the park’s two camping pods, each sleeping 2–4 people. The pods are equipped with a small fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, TV, heating, and electricity, offering a comfortable and convenient alternative to traditional camping.
Country Park and Activities
Visitors at California Chalet & Touring Park can enjoy direct access to the adjacent country park, which spans over 100 acres of natural beauty. The park features nature trails, woodland walks, picnic areas, a children’s play area, and a paddling pool — making it ideal for families and nature lovers alike.
The park’s serene six-acre lake provides excellent fishing opportunities, with species including carp, pike, tench, rudd, roach, and perch. Guests wishing to fish are required to hold a current National River Authority Rod Licence, available from local tackle shops in Wokingham.
