Foxholes Castle Camping, located in Bishop’s Castle, Shropshire, offers a variety of unique accommodation options in a truly spectacular setting. For something a little different, guests can choose to stay in the EcoCabin, Datcha, or one of three charming converted railway carriages: Lydham Heath, Horderley, and Plowden.

Surrounded by breathtaking views across Powys and Shropshire’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the site teems with wildlife right on the doorstep. The historic market town of Bishop’s Castle is only a 10-minute stroll away along the Shropshire Way Footpath, which passes through the campsite.

Guests benefit from a wide range of eco-friendly and practical facilities, including:

Modern, solar-powered shower and toilet block, with toilets flushed using a mix of harvested rainwater and well water

Main shower block with 3 wet rooms, including an accessible option

Common room with five solar-heated washing-up sinks and a communal fridge and freezer

Book swap, children’s games, and local information on events, restaurants, and businesses

Unique Accommodation Options

EcoCabin – Sleeping up to 6, this spacious cabin includes one double room, two bunk rooms, and a double sofa bed. A wet-room bathroom and full central heating make it perfect for year-round stays.

Datcha – A wood-clad cabin with a raised porch overlooking the valley and the Long Mynd. It sleeps 6 with a double bedroom, bunk room, and sofa bed in the open-plan living/kitchen/dining space, complete with shower room and central heating.

Converted Railway Carriages – Each carriage accommodates 2 guests and welcomes dogs. With a cosy open-plan layout including a bed, living and dining space, and a kitchenette (fridge, induction hob, and cold running water), these carriages offer character and comfort. Bathroom facilities are a short walk away and shared with the main campsite. Each carriage enjoys a private outdoor seating area with stunning views.

Exploring Bishop’s Castle & Beyond

Bishop’s Castle is known for its lively festivals and events, including a walking festival in June, a carnival in July, and the quirky stone-skimming championships at the end of July. The town also boasts a strong live music scene. Nearby, long-distance trails such as the Offa’s Dyke Path, Wild Edric’s Way, and the Kerry Ridgeway provide excellent walking and cycling opportunities.
