The Shottisham Campsite, Shottisham, Woodbridge, Suffolk

Shottisham Campsite is a small, family-run, and peaceful site offering a total of 50 pitches for caravans, campervans, and tents—30 with electricity and 20 without. The site is well-maintained, grassy, flat, and spacious, with excellent drainage. Committed to sustainability, it operates using solar panels and electricity sourced entirely from renewable energy.

Located on the edge of a small village in a designated conservation area of outstanding natural beauty, the campsite provides direct access to forest, river, and heathland trails. The coast is just a short distance away, with Shingle Street beach approximately three miles away and Bawdsey—a sandy beach where the River Deben meets the sea—four miles away.

Facilities include three small toilet and shower blocks, offering a total of 10 toilets, five showers, and a disabled-access toilet. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a secure lead at all times.

The site is rich in wildlife, with regular sightings of owls, woodpeckers, nightingales, deer, and badgers. A small working farm is also part of the campsite, home to free-range chickens alongside rare breed goats, pigs, and alpacas. Claire leads ‘animal feeding’ sessions on Saturdays, and on selected weekdays during school holidays, at 5 pm. Further details can be found on the website.

The Blue Rabbit Café, located on-site, serves delicious home-grown and homemade breakfasts, brunches, and cakes, using home-reared rare breed sausages, bacon, eggs, and other fresh produce. The café is open at weekends from the end of May onwards. Visitors can also purchase homemade jams, firewood, sausages, bacon, and eggs, with firepits and picnic tables available for hire between 6-7 pm by the café.

A short two-minute walk into the village leads to The Sorrel Horse, a 14th-century thatched pub, owned by the community, offering great beer, hearty pub food, quiz nights, and live music. A children’s playground, accessible directly from the campsite, is also located in the village.
