Beech Estate Campsite, Battle, East Sussex

Beech Estate Campsite is part of Pegs and Pitches Camping, which operates two stunning woodland campsites in Sussex. Offering an off-grid experience, the site allows guests to pitch their own tents or stay in pre-erected, fully equipped bell tents for a "wild glamping" experience. Campfires are welcomed, with each tent pitch and bell tent featuring a designated fire pit area.

Located in East Sussex near the historic town of Battle, the campsite is within easy reach of London, Hastings, and the South Coast. It is nestled on the edge of a 600-acre woodland within the 2,000-acre private Beech Estate, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The surrounding woodlands offer endless walking trails, ideal terrain for mountain biking, and spaces for children to build dens and explore freely. Guests have exclusive access to the estate’s woodlands, with no public entry permitted.

Tent pitches are carefully set apart in woodland clearings, providing a secluded experience. For those seeking even more privacy, "faraway tent pitches" are available on a hilltop overlooking Bracken Valley. These pitches offer a greater sense of solitude, though they require a short additional walk to reach the toilets and showers.

The site’s bell tents are also situated in forest clearings and offer a hassle-free camping experience. Each tent is equipped with a designated fire pit, grill, firewood allocation, beds, a picnic table, camping chairs, and cooking utensils. As an off-grid campsite, there are no power points, phone chargers, or luxury amenities such as hot tubs or silk sheets. Instead, the "wild glamping" experience provides an authentic yet comfortable approach to camping, with everything set up and ready for guests upon arrival.

Adjacent to the campsite, the estate’s 110-acre meadowland conservation area is one of the largest and most significant interconnected ancient meadows in the South East. The area supports a diverse range of wildlife, including birds of prey such as hobbies, buzzards, kestrels, sparrowhawks, and barn owls. The meadows are rich with wildflowers, including orchids, ox-eye daisies, quaking grasses, bird’s foot trefoil, and knapweed. To date, 34 butterfly species, including clouded yellows and painted ladies, have been recorded on the estate, along with several rare insects.

Facilities include eco-toilets, flushing toilets, and unique outdoor bucket showers with a hot water supply. Permanent wardens are on-site to assist campers, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable stay. The campsite operates as a small-scale, quiet, and relaxed retreat, with a strict policy against amplified music and a low-noise rule from 10 pm. Ideal for families and groups, Beech Estate Campsite provides the perfect setting to reconnect with nature and enjoy meaningful time together.
