Drybeck Farm, Armathwaite, Carlisle, Cumbria

Drybeck Farm is on the banks of the River Eden just outside the Cambrian village of Armathwaite. The farm provides a selection of accommodation options to provide a luxury outdoor holiday. This is the ideal setting for a back to nature experience and for those wishing to explore the Lake District, Carlisle and The Pennines.

Guests can choose to camp or glamp when staying here, all guests have access to the on-site facilities. For environmental reasons, they decided to install compost loos. These have been described by some guests as “the quaintest and cutest loos they have ever used.” They manage and maintain them very closely to ensure they are as pleasant as possible to use.

There are electric showers which provide plenty of hot water. You will also find eco-friendly shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. This helps them to re-cycle the shower water for use in the gardens.

The Wigloo: Perfect for those who want a camping-style experience, with the luxuries and comforts you get from self catering. The “Wigloo” is a similar size and style to a yurt, with all the benefits of the bright interior and better insulation. It contains:

Double bed.
Double futon sofa bed.
Woodburning stove.
Electric lighting.
Immediately behind is a private cookhouse set in a wooded glade.
Bedding provided.
Cooking equipment and utensils provided.

In the glade near the cookhouse is a wood-fired hot tub, for sole use to those who stay in the Wigloo. It is in a private setting, perfect for couples on a romantic retreat or families on a break away.

The Lantern House: This is the second of the glamping holiday homes. It is larger than the Wigloo and looks like a traditional lantern (hence its name). Sleeping up to 4 people and contains the same amenities as the Wigloo.

The Lantern House’s truly unique feature lies outside where they have converted a beautiful Kaldewei Kuatsu bathing tub. This is a large deep 600-litre bathing tub in which you can immerse your whole body without lying down. This tub takes its inspiration from Japanese bathing culture where the focus is as much on relaxing the body as washing. It has an armchair style design in which 2 adults can sit side by side for the ultimate relaxing bathing experience. The tub is heated via a wood burner. You can have a wonderfully relaxing bathe in the Great Outdoors. Candles and bath bubbles sre even provided. It stands under its own Gazebo style structure with a fire pit, barbecue and outdoor seating close at hand.

Camping: For those who want to enjoy the location and have their own camping equipment, you can stay in the camping field which has 10, well-spaced pitches. There is plenty of space for campers to feel that they are not being overlooked. Small camper vans are also welcome.

They wanted to provide campers with an “old school” style camping experience. There is no shop, Wi-Fi, clubhouse or reception. Just grass pitches, in a beautiful meadow, in the heart of the Eden Valley. There is a fire pit on each pitch for you to enjoy a campfire. Just a few yards from your tent there is the beautiful River Eden to swim and play in and loads of space for the kids to run around and play.

Croglin: The luxurious and magical yurt, Croglin, nestles unobtrusively on the river bank. It is handcrafted by the Lakeland Yurt Company from locally grown timber into the perfect rural retreat. On fine evenings you can sit outside by a roaring fire whilst listening to the owls and the splash of fish jumping in the river. Croglin has a double bed and a double futon sofa bed so can sleep up to 4 people.

Immediately alongside Croglin, they have constructed its own private cookhouse. This contains table and chairs a double hob/oven, fridge, running water and all necessary crockery and utensils.

Evelyn: Evelyn sits in a stunning location right on the banks of the River Eden in a very private space with views out across the river to the wooded banks opposite. If you are lucky you may get a glimpse of an elusive otter. Next to Evelyn is its own cookhouse with running water, a cooker and a fridge. It is fully equipped and has a table and chairs. When staying in Evelyn you can enjoy a soak in our riverside hot tub. This is a beautiful wood fired hot tub just a few yards away which can be hired for your own exclusive use

Evelyn is perfect for couples or families. There is a double bed at waist height and a single bed underneath, which is ideal for a child up to 12 years old.

The Shepherds Wagon: The newest addition to Drybeck gives a nod to our local Cumbrian farming heritage – a traditional Shepherd’s Wagon. Shepherds Wagons were a vital element of farming in the UK and were first seen in the 15th century and used extensively into the mid 20th century and the advent of mechanised farming. The Shepherds Wagon sleeps 4 and has an external fully equipped kitchen.

When staying in The Shepherds Wagon you can enjoy a soak in our riverside hot tub. This is a beautiful wood fired hot tub just a few yards away which can be hired for your own exclusive use.

The area surrounding the farm is ideal for relaxing. You are welcome to swim in the river or alternatively there is a swimming pool in Lazenby. If you want to travel slightly further then the city of Carlisle is nearby with its shops, places to eat, nightlife and attractions including a castle.
